Fijians, and the wider Melanesian ethnic grouping, are recognised to have different healthcare requirements compared to European populations. This is due to genetic and environmental influencing factors. In particular, there is an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus.1

A 2019 Freedom of Information request showed that there were ~1500 Fijian-born personnel serving across Defence.
