| Died of Wounds (DoW) | Personnel who die as a result of injuries inflicted by hostile action after reaching a UK or coalition ally Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) |
| Died Non-Enemy Action (DNEA) | Personnel who die as a result of injuries caused by non-hostile activity after reaching a UK or coalition ally MTF |
| Killed in Action (KIA) | Personnel killed instantly or before reaching a UK or coalition ally MTF. Includes personnel arriving with cardiopulmonary resuscitation in progress who do not have any return of spontaneous circulation at the MTF |
| Killed Non-Enemy Action (KNEA) | Personnel killed instantly or before reaching a MTF as a result of non-hostile activity |
